Robert Betts was a farmer in 1534.² He left a will on 25 March 1572 at England; His will directed that he be buried in the churchyard at Bearsted and gave, to the poor men's box, 12d; to every of my godchildlren, 4d., to Agnes, my wife, 1 cow, ten sheep, all the wheat upon 1 acre, and half of my household stuff after other legacies delivered; to son John, 12d; to son Alexander Bett the term of years yet to come in my farm wherein I now dwell, he paying the yearly rent, etc; to my son Thomas Bett all the wheat and rye now growing upon the piece of land called Culverhouse Fylde [2 acres], etc; to Robert Bett, son of said Thomas, one lamb; to daughter Margaret, wife of John Thompson, 10#, 13s. 4d., etc; to Anne Tomson, daughter of said Johnson [sic], one lamb; to my daughter Robydge, wife of John Godden, 6s, 8d; to James Godden, 2 sheep; to Agnes Welyfayre, 20s; to Myldred Mylton, my servant,, 20s; residue to my son Alexander Bett whom I make my sole executor.      Deacon Richard Platt married Mary Wood on 26 January 1628/29 at Roydon, Essex County, England; four miles southeast of Ware.^1,4 Deacon Richard Platt there was an "Order that Richard Platt of Ware and his apprentice be brought before certain justices, that some order might be taken to end the differences between them". [Hertford County Records, Vol. 5, Quarter Sessions Books, 1619-1657, Hertford, 1928, p. 115.] on 13 July 1629 at Ware, Hertford Co., England.² He emigrated in 1638; to New England.²

I give unto my son Epenetus Platt beside what I have formerly given him twenty pound for for his children three bibles.
I give my son in law Christopher Comstocke and his wife beside what I have formerly given him twenty two pound and for his children three bibles. I give Samuel Bech [Beach] beside what I have formerly given him six ound. I give Hannah and Deborah Merwin, two bibles.
I give Elder [Daniel] Buckingham five pound towards bringing up his son to be a schollar.
I give my son Epenetus five pound toward bringing up his son to be a schollar.
I give my son Josia Platt beside what I have formerly given him the meadow on ye far side of the creeks by stubby playne, and half the pasture or land by ye necke gate, and the land not yet taken in of my division and half the pasture land below the two orchards, and five bibles for his children. I give Josiah Whitmore and his sister two bibles. I give my son Joseph Platt's children two bibles.
I give my son Joseph Platt all the remainder of my estate, housing, barnes, lands, meadows, corne, cattle, mares, sheep, hogs, moveables, he paying the legacyes above named and debts.
I make my son Joseph Platt my executor of this my last Will.
I desire Elder Buckingham and my son Josia Platt to see this my Will fulfilled and I give Elder Buckingham and my son Josia twenty shillings a piece for their payment.
